Learning Possible Damages If You Install Petrol in a Diesel Car

Loaded wrong fuel in your car?
If you have pumped wrong fuel in your car tank by
mistake, the surefire way to avert damages is not to start the engine or turn
on ignition; otherwise contaminated fuel will circulate through the fuel
channel and engine, adding to the risk of costly repairing.
And believe it or not, you are not alone in the league. There
are at least 150,000 drivers who put wrong fuel every year in the car. It means
every three and a half minute, one person is mis-fueling his/her car. The
reason of misfuelling could be one’s being abstracted during
filling up or new to a car.
It is justifiably believed that wrong-fuelling incident
is closely associated with increase in sale of diesel cars. The latest diesel
car models are very quiet, so much so that you will hardly feel that the car is
running. Unfortunately, they are less resistant to wrong-fuelling damages as
compared to the old diesel makes.
Identifying potential damages of unleaded into diesel
vehicles
  • Diesel pumps
have very high tolerance and can operate under a very high pressure. These
pumps feature fuel lubrication. Petrol functions as a solvent in diesel cars
and reduces lubrication, causing damages to engine and fuel channel due to
    contact between metals.
  • Deposition of
metal particles of the damaged pump will cause further damages to other parts
    of the fuel system.
  • Seals in some
fuel channel can be badly affected due to petrol compounds.
  • Further the
fuel mixture goes into the fuel system, the more costly the fix-up. In the
worst cases, repairing would be more expensive than fitting a new engine.
  • HDI diesel
engines are more prone to damages in the event of mis-fuelling. If contaminated
fuel goes as far as common rail system, you will probably be left with no
choice but to replace high and low-pressure fuel pumps, fuel rail, injectors,
    line filters and fuel tank.
  • Many cars feature a low-pressure electric pump that
starts working as soon as ignition is turned on, circulating fuel mixture
through the rail and pump. So never turn on ignition if you filled up your car
    with wrong fuel.
