Mis-Fuel Mistake Affecting Leicestershire Police Force

In last few years, wrong-fuel mistake have cost
Leicestershire Police force over £20,000.
Figures disclosed by the Freedom of Information Act
clearly show that police officers have loaded wrong fuel 121 times since 2008.
In most of the cases, wrong-fuel repairing cost has amounted to several hundred
pounds. And one vehicle was so badly damaged that it alone cost £2,800.
The forces have revealed that the number of
wrong-fueling incidents has been dwindling significantly over the last couple
of years as the officers are being “educated” with regards to potential consequences
of placing wrong fuel petrol or diesel into vans and cars.
It is one of those things that can happen to anyone but
those who have already done it know how troublesome things could turn out to
be. Some officers even said off the record such things should be considered
seriously as it costs police force a hefty sum of money and what is more, it
never looks good that a police officer, while being on his duty, does not pay
attention to such minor things.
The car drivers/owners, after realizing that they have
installed wrong fuel into their vehicle, come back to the fuel shop. They ask
for help from the attendants at petrol station and look utterly embarrassed. According
to law, the nozzles on petrol and diesel pumps must be different in sizes. Such
regulation is meant to prevent wrong-fueling occurrence and save the pockets of
people.
With such arrangement which is according to law
you will not be able to fit your diesel pump into a petrol car. That explains
why wrong-fuelling cases are not happening so much. Sources close to the force say
that Leicestershire Police has been successful to reduce wrong-fueling expenses
by educating their officers about what they should do if they accidentally load
wrong fuel in their vehicle.

However, it should be admitted that it is very
likely for the officers, who are using several vehicles in the course of their
duties, to commit such mistake. However, with greater care, such mistakes can
be averted to a significant extent and repairing cost can also be restricted to
a minimum.
