Motorists who fill their car tank with wrong fuel are now
being slapped with a heavy charge as it may go up as high as £5,000 and can
also hit a petty figure in the neighbourhood of only £110.
Most of the motorists are paying a heavy price for their
negligence or not being aware of the fact whether they are driving a petrol car
or a diesel vehicle. However, the experts claim that most of the breakdown
works done in name of wrong fuel removal are unnecessary and only
add to repairing charge. They have also said it is never difficult to identify
as well as rectify a wrong fuelling problem.
Researchers of Auto Express claimed themselves as car
owners who had filled his diesel cars with unleaded and then asked the service
providers to quote for price. They quoted a £5,000 to rectify a Grand Voyager.
They also noted dramatic variation in car repairing bill.
A Skoda Octavia owner is required to pay off £110 to flush the fuel system and
install the filter. But if you are driving a BMW 320d, be prepared to pay
£1,000 or even more than that. The amount covers servicing for fitting a new
fuel pump and line.
Majority of the wrong-fuelling incidents involve unleaded
into diesel car. The obvious reason is the diesel nozzles at the fuel court are
too big to go into your car’s petrol tank. In the latest models of the diesel
engines, fuel functions as a propellant as well as a lubricating component. Petrol
is a solvent and so can chemically strip the diesel lubricant, causing the
metal fuel components to come into contact.
If you realize the wrong-fuelling mistake before wheeling
your car away, it is unlikely for your car to suffer any major damage. In such
cases, pumping out contaminated fuel is only what your vehicle needs.

Wrong Fuel recovery charge for expensive and latest
car models is very high. For example, fuel recovery charge for Land Rovers and
Ford Focus would be more than £2,500. Charge also varies from one servicing
center to another though reputed centers usually demand reasonable price.
