There are many customers who regularly
refer to the garage I work with when they face any trouble with their cars.
Last summer, such a customer drove into the garage with his old BMW 320i. He
had accidentally filled in diesel, the wrong fuel in car, which ran on unleaded petrol. His car was giving trouble and he immediately
drove it to us to get it checked.

Honestly, none of us had any experience
with draining the wrong fuel out of a vehicle, which is exactly what we
mentioned to the customer. The customer asked us to give it a try, saying
“there is always a first time!†Since he was insisting, we decided to take on
the challenge.

We dismantled the fuel lines and carefully
drained the mixture of diesel and unleaded petrol from the fuel tank. Next, we
tried to drain whatever we could out of the fuel lines. Once we were done with
this, we towed the car to the service station and got it filled with 5 litres
of unleaded.

The engine came to life, but the ride was
not a smooth one yet. Moreover, there was a lot of smoke coming out of the
exhaust. This meant that we had not really solved the problem.

It was then that we called up Wrong Fuel
Recovery and asked the customer to explain the situation to them. We were
promised that a technician will arrive within an hour to check what was wrong
and how long it will take to mend the situation.

We waited for about twenty minutes after
which we had someone from the company drive up to us in their mobile units. He
spoke to us and got a clear idea on the situation. He stated that though the
contaminated fuel has been drained from the system, we still needed to clean
the fuel tank, fuel lines and the filter.

The technician drained the freshly filled 5
liters of unleaded petrol from the fuel tank. Next, he pumped in some sort of a
high performance cleaning agent into the fuel system. He dismantled the fuel
system and cleansed the filter and the pipes before reinstating them.

Once this was done and everything was
drained from the fuel system again, he pumped in fresh petrol and switched on
the ignition. Though we had our doubts, this time the engine purred to life. We
took a drive and everything was smooth again. Though the exhaust blew out some
smoke initially, it cleared out soon and things were looking good again!
