Wrong Fuel Mistake A Few
Words to Share
Refilling a car tank with wrong
fuel is an increasingly and alarmingly common mistake. It is disquieting in the
sense that placing petrol in diesel car may cost you thousands because contaminated
fuel damages your vehicle’s tank even if present for half an hour or so. Things
may take a worse turn if you drive the car after mis-fueling mistake.
          Often problems emerge after a
few hours and by then, you have most probably travelled a few miles. Sometimes,
you may hear peculiar sound which is very mild and so you take time to contact
a technician to check what has happened. Other times, problem is acute and
immediate attention is felt a must.
Cost of correcting misfueling
mistake, especially if you have installed petrol in your diesel caravan, may
run beyond hundreds of pounds depending on the car model and how long it takes
to drain the tank. Let us now focus on the specific case i.e. petrol in diesel car.
Diesel engine of older models may
withstand existence of petrol, though in smaller amount. In all likelihood, the
mistake won’t damage the car though it is always recommended to remove the
wrong fuel in the event of any misfueling mistake. However, the latest models
of diesel engines don’t have that much tolerance and the risk of damage is very
high.
How can petrol cause damage to your diesel car?

The high-pressure pumping
components heavily depend on lubrication properties of the fuel here it is
diesel. Petrol, which is an organic solvent, strips diesel away from the
pumping elements, thereby causing heavy damages to the car engine. So if you
have accidentally put petrol in a non-compliant diesel injection system, never
dare to turn the key. If you do that, the electric pump in your vehicle will
circulate the wrong fuel through the entire system, requiring a major repair
right now.
